Intra-Company Transfer Employment Permit
This permit allows a non-EEA employee to temporarily transfer from an overseas branch (“Foreign Employer”) to the Irish branch (“Connected Person”) of the same company.

Employee Eligibility:

Senior management: €46,000+ per annum

Employer Requirements:

Irish branch must be registered and actively trading

Contract for Services Employment Permit
This permit is for foreign contractors providing services to an Irish entity under a one-to-one contract. Subcontracting to a third party is not allowed.
Duration: Initial permit up to 24 months, extendable to 5 years
Employee Eligibility:
Occupation must not be on the ineligible list
May transition to Critical or General Employment Permit after one year
Employer Requirements:
Contractor must be registered with Revenue and, if applicable, Companies Registration Office
50% of employees must be EEA nationals
Labour Market Needs Test may be required unless:
Role is on the Critical Skills Occupations List
Salary is €64,000+
Supported by Enterprise Development Agency
Family Reunion: Not eligible; dependents must apply separately.
Internship Employment Permit
This permit allows foreign students to work in Ireland while studying full-time at a university outside Ireland.
Duration: Maximum 12 months, non-renewable
Purpose: Gain practical experience related to skills shortage
Employee Eligibility:
Full-time students (undergraduate or postgraduate)
Degree or higher course
Offer of internship with an approved employer
Employer Requirements:
Registered with Revenue and, if applicable, Companies Registration Office
50% of employees must be EEA nationals
Labour Market Needs Test: Not required
Family Reunion: Not eligible; dependents must apply separately.
Sport and Cultural Employment Permit
This permit enables foreign nationals with relevant skills, knowledge, or experience to work in Ireland in roles linked to sporting or cultural activities.
Duration: Up to 2 years (full-time) or seasonal
Salary: At least national minimum wage
Employee Requirements: Must have required qualifications, skills, and experience
Employer Requirements:
Registered with Revenue and, if applicable, Companies Registration Office
Employee paid directly by employer
50% of workforce must be EEA nationals
Labour Market Needs Test: Not required
Family Reunion: Not eligible; dependents must apply separately.
Exchange Agreement Employment Permit
Designed for foreign nationals participating in approved exchange or international agreements, such as:
AIESEC
IAESTE (International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience)
Fulbright Programme
Exchange between St Joseph’s University, Philadelphia and University College Cork in conjunction with Bord Bia
Vulcanus in Europe Programme
Duration: Typically up to 12 months, non-renewable
Employee Eligibility:
Salary at least national minimum wage
Relevant qualifications, skills, or experience
Supported by a letter from the exchange organisation
Family Reunion: Not eligible; dependents must apply separately.
