Dependants, Spouses, and Partners of Employment Permit Holders

If you hold a Critical Skills or General Employment Permit in Ireland, you may be eligible to bring your spouse, de facto partner, and dependent children (under 18) to live with you. A “de facto” partner refers to someone you are in a committed relationship with and have lived together for at least two years.
Critical Skills Employment Permit (CSEP) Holders and Researchers

If you are a Critical Skills Employment Permit holder or a researcher on a hosting agreement, you are eligible to bring your spouse or de facto partner and dependent children to live with you in Ireland immediately. However, they will receive different immigration permissions, and their right to work in Ireland depends on their status.

Spouse

  • Your spouse will be granted Stamp 1G immigration permission.

  • They will not require an employment permit to work in Ireland under Stamp 1G.

  • If your spouse is a citizen of a non-EEA country, an entry visa may be required beforehand if they come from a visa-required country.

For holders of a General Employment Permit, your spouse, de facto partner, and dependent children can apply to join you after one year of employment, provided your income is sufficient to support your family.

  • To sponsor your spouse or partner, you must have earned a minimum annual salary of €30,000 in the past two years before filing the application.

  • If you have dependent children, your income will be assessed separately based on weekly working family payment limits according to your family size.
