Positive Lists
The positive list is a list of professions experiencing a shortage of qualified professionals in Denmark.
You can apply for a Danish residence and work permit based on the Positive List Scheme if you are offered a job on the Positive List. You are not allowed to perform unpaid volunteer work once you receive this permit.
The Positive List is updated twice a year – 1 January and 1 July.
Positive lists have 2 categories which are explained below:
- Highly educated
You are allowed to work in a company if your education matches the positive list of highly educated. People who are new to their jobs need to apply for a new work permit in order to avoid any problems in the future. Your residence is valid till your days of employment and if you are willing to continue your work in Denmark then you must apply for an extension.
- Skilled workers
If you are a skilled worker included in the positive lists of skilled workers then you are allowed to apply for a work permit and residence permit based on this scheme. This works only if you have permission to work in the country.

In order to qualify for Danish nationality, you must have had 9 years of uninterrupted residence in the country and have a valid permanent residence permit. You must also prove that you are able to support yourself and must not have received any public benefits within the past year.
