What is the TOEFL exam?

The English proficiency exam is accepted and preferred in more than 11,500 top universities located worldwide. The TOEFL iBT test helps students to stand out confidently in different areas of English communication i.e. listening, speaking, writing and reading. This test is a high standard and high-quality that assures admission officers that you are eligible to qualify for English institutions. 

This exam is accepted in countries like the USA, Canada, Australia, etc. There was two types of TOEFL exams earlier i.e. TOEFL iBT and TOEFL PBT. The TOEFL iBT exam is a computer-based exam that is conducted online whereas the TOEFL PBT is a paper-based exam. Now, from 11th April 2021 onwards TOEFL PBT has been discontinued by the ETS which is the (Educational Testing Service) exam conducting body. Thus TOEFL iBT is an exam that is conducted online in 3 ways.

  • the traditional TOEFL iBT test in a test center
  • the TOEFL iBT Home Edition
  • the TOEFL iBT Paper Edition

What is the Eligibility to take the TOEFL Exam?

In order to take the TOEFL exam, students must fulfill the basics to take the exam mentioned below:

  • Students of any age can take this exam as there is no age restriction on it.
  • Students must have qualified 10+2 exams from the recognized board. 

How is TOEFL Registration Done?

TOEFL examination dates are allotted on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the year. You can choose the test date and center as per your needs. Also, there is more than one way of registering for the test. The three modes for TOEFL registration are as follows:

  • Online registration is the most common and easiest way to register. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, online registration is available. You must book seats at least 7 days in advance of the exam.
  • Telephone registration is also available to prospective applicants.
  • Mail registration is also available for those who cannot register through the above methods. For this, you must download the TOEFL application form from the official website, fill it out with your correct information, and send it at least 4 weeks in advance of your intended test date. On the official website, you can find the nearest TOEFL center, and the form can be mailed to the same address. If you register successfully, you will receive a confirmation email.

How much time does it take to prepare for the TOEFL exam?

To prepare for the TOEFL exam students need to start their preparation 2-4 months before the exam date. Each section is prepared differently by giving an ample amount of time and practice. Make sure you prepare for the exam with its appropriate timing so that you do not miss out on any question on the exam date. The exam is all about right answering and time that needs to be prepared in the best conditions. 

To prepare for the TOEFL exam here is the list of a few points that need to be noted:

  • Before starting your preparation, know your syllabus well.
  • Make daily writing practice a habit that will give you confidence on the exam date. For best results read more newspapers, magazines, novels to grasp new words and their usage for making a sentence. 
  • For reading practice, read loudly so that you are able to pronounce difficult words with ease on the day of examination.
