Know About Types of Employment Permits in Ireland

Employment permit is a type of permit which allows individuals on different visas to work in the country for a limited time or permanently. Every year thousands of students and immigrants go to different countries in search of better job opportunities. Making this an easy task we in this blog have explained different types of employment permits and how you can have them.

Various types of Employment Permits are available under the Employment Permits Act 2006, as amended. All these permits are explained below:

  1. Dependant/Partner/Spouse Employment Permit

To work in the state the dependant/Partner/Spouse employment permit gives an allowance to dependants and recognised partners (where recognised as such by the Department of Justice and Equality), civil partners and spouses of Critical Skills Employment Permit holders (formerly Green Card employment permit holders) and of Researchers on Hosting Agreements to apply for an employment permit to work in the State. Without a valid employment permit it is illegal for spouses and dependents of employment permit holders to be employed in Ireland.

  1. Critical Skills Employment Permit

Designed to encourage highly skilled individuals to settle permanently in Ireland, the Critical Skills Employment Permit is intended for highly skilled individuals in need of jobs. These permits are applicable to a variety of professions on the Critical Skills Occupations List, such as information and communication technology professionals, engineers and technologists.

  1. Intra-Company Transfer Employment Permit

Obtaining an Intra-Company Transfer Employment Permit allows foreign nationals to transfer from an overseas branch to an Irish branch of a multinational corporation who are senior management, key personnel or trainees. A Foreign Direct Investment Company is ideal for a foreign direct investment company’s initial formation because of the Intra-Company Transfer Employment Permit. Employees from HQ and corporate offices can temporarily work at the Irish affiliate while remaining on the foreign payroll through this work permit.

  1. General Employment Permit

The general employment permit is a type of employment permit that allows the visa holders to be employed in Ireland in a variety of occupations. Under this type of permit all occupations are assumed eligible unless specified unlike the Critical skills employment permit where eligible occupations are specified. Therefore, all occupations are thus eligible, unless excluded from the Ineligible List of Occupations for Employment Permits. All occupations on the Critical Skills Occupations List are deemed eligible.

  1. Reactivation Employment Permit

Previously, Work Permit Employment Permits were routed through the Migrant Rights Center Ireland. Through the new Reactivation Employment Permit, they are no longer routed through the center. This permit is meant for non-EEA nationals who entered Ireland with a valid and relevant employment permit but were out of it due to some reasons and no fault of their own. This helps the individuals who were treated badly at the workplace and work exploited in a number of ways to work legally again.

  1. Contract for Services Employment Permit

The contract for services employment permit is designed or made for the situations where a contractor or foreign undertaking has won a contract that provides services to an Irish company (relevant person) on a contract for services basis which facilitates non-EEA employees. This type of permit also replaces the contract service provider type of work permit employment permit.

  1. Internship Employment Permit

This type of work permit suits the students who are non-EEA nationals in the state and study full-time. Also, students should be studying in a discipline relevant to the occupations included on the Critical Skills Occupations List and enrolled at a third level institution outside the State, for the purposes of gaining work experience. The internship employment permit is a type of an employment permit that replaces the old version of work permit employment permit.

  1. Sport and Cultural Employment Permit

The sports and cultural employment permit is for non-EEA nationals who are in the state with the required experience, skills, qualifications, and knowledge that can help them develop, operate cultural activities with the capacity of sporting. This type of work permit caters to the entertainment sector. It also replaces the old sports professional type of work permit.

  1. Exchange Agreement Employment Permit

The Exchange agreement employment permit caters for employment permits for international reciprocal agreements. This employment permit is designed and suitive for the individuals in state who are non-EEA nationals pursuant to prescribed agreements or other national agreements in which the state is a party or a member. The Exchange Agreement Employment Permit replaces the old Exchange Agreement type of Work Permit Employment Permit

How can you get a work permit?

Work permit solely depends on the organization and the government that gives a nod to individuals to work in the state. Visawebs here play an important role as on the behalf of the employees it requests or submits the application to the organizations to allow individuals to work or extend their work duration to stay in the country. This helps employees to work for a longer period. Also, if you do not have a job or a work permit to get employed, Visawebs help in that too. We help students who have passed their colleges to get suitive jobs in the state and along with that we help students to make them stay longer so that they are able to move from Stamp 1G to stamp 2.
