Trusted Partnership
Explore the Trusted Partner Initiative, how Trusted Partners submit Employment Permit applications, and the key advantages of holding Trusted Partner status.
What is a Trusted Partnership?
Organisations recognised as a Trusted Partner by the DETE benefit from a smoother and faster employment permit application process. Under this initiative, Employers, Connected Persons, or EEA contractors may apply for Trusted Partner status. Once approved, a unique Trusted Partner Registration Number is issued, allowing applicants to use this number instead of repeatedly providing full employer details.
The Trusted Partner Initiative is designed to reduce administrative burden, especially for employers expanding their workforce, by eliminating the need to repeatedly enter the same employer or connected person information for each employment permit application, whether for new grants or renewals.
To qualify for Trusted Partner status, the Employer, Connected Person, or EEA contractor must be registered with the Office of the Revenue Commissioners and, where applicable, the Companies Registration Office or Registry of Friendly Societies.
Applications by Trusted Partners for Employment Permits
Trusted Partners benefit from a streamlined employment permit process. Using the Trusted Partner application forms, they only need to provide information regarding the employment and the foreign national.
All applications submitted under Trusted Partner status must quote the unique Trusted Partner Registration Number. This applies for the duration of the Trusted Partner registration validity period and ensures consistent and efficient processing.

How can I become a Trusted Partner in Ireland?
You can apply online to register as a Trusted Partner through the Employment Permits Online System (EPOS). Before beginning, it’s helpful to review the Trusted Partner Registration Checklist (PDF, 535KB), which guides you through the application steps.
Applicants must provide details, and where applicable, documentation of their registrations with the Companies Registration Office, Registry of Friendly Societies, and Office of the Revenue Commissioners. They may also share information about connections with foreign employers or contracts with Irish entities (Relevant Persons) for future Intra-Company Transfer or Contract for Services Employment Permit applications, if available. A User Guide (PDF) is available online explaining the required documents for each application type.
Once approved, the Employer, Connected Person, or EEA Contractor will receive a Trusted Partner Registration Number, which must be kept secure to prevent misuse. Failure to comply with the declarations on the application form may result in removal of Trusted Partner status. Non-compliance may be checked during NERA inspections at permit renewals or through other departmental reviews.
