10Questions on file
Q01Who can reach the full 24 months?

Graduates of masters or PhD programmes at Level 9 and above can extend Stamp 1G to a combined maximum of 24 months, granted as an initial 12 months plus a 12 month extension. Honours degree graduates at Level 8 generally receive a single 12 months.

Q02Can I work full-time on Stamp 1G?

Yes. Stamp 1G gives full labour market access with no employment permit, so you can work full-time while you search for a sponsored role. It is designed to help you find an employer who will support your permit.

Q03What should I do before it ends?

Aim to secure a job offer and lodge a Critical Skills or General Employment Permit application before the graduate permission runs out. Permits typically take 8 to 13 weeks, so we plan the transition well in advance.

Q04Does time on Stamp 1G count towards Stamp 4?

No. Time on Stamp 1G does not count towards the 21 months of employment on a Critical Skills permit that leads to Stamp 4. The qualifying clock only starts once you commence employment under the permit itself.

Q05What if I cannot find a job in time?

Once the maximum graduate period ends you must hold another permission to remain. We assess your options early, including whether a further course or a different permission route is realistic, so you are never left without a plan.
